Heathrow slumped in a league table of Europe’s busiest airports today as the government prepares to relax testing requirements for fully vaccinated travellers.
The west London hub dropped from first to 10th in a list of Europe’s most popular airports after passenger numbers fell by 71 per cent compared with pre-Covid levels.
At the height of the summer getaway last month 2.2 million passengers travelled through the airport, the highest monthly total since the start of the pandemic. However, it still only represented 29 per cent of the total registered in 2019, underlining the sluggish pace of the UK’s recovery from the pandemic.
International data shows that rival European airports have recovered at a faster pace than Heathrow, which was the busiest airport in Europe
