A driver has been left furious after We Buy Any Car cancelled his purchase – despite the DVLA telling him he was no longer the registered owner.

Pandi Qerreti, 44, was expecting £33,097.25 for his Mercedes Benz after agreeing to a sale.

The frustrated motorist said he had arranged to sell his Mercedes to a We Buy Any Car store on September 16, with the payment due to reach his account by 8pm the following day.

But the next morning, Mr Qerreti was informed over the phone and on email that the purchase had been cancelled and he must “immediately pick up the car”, reports Hull Live.

He claimed he intended to pick up the car when he received a government email notification later that day telling him: ” DVLA have been notified electronically that you have sold/transferred this vehicle into the motor trade and are no longer the keeper.”

Mr Qerreti says the application to change the car’s ownership details was registered as having been made at 11.17am on September 17.

He claims this was over an hour after he received email and call notification that the purchase was not going ahead.

Mr Qerreti says he still hasn’t received any of the promised money, one week after first contacting We Buy Any Car, and has also not picked up the vehicle after being told he’s no longer the owner.

He said: “I’ve been very stressed and very disappointed. It stopped me going to work, I can’t go to work because of the stress.”

Mr Qerreti says he received an email on the morning of September 17 from We Buy Any Car, saying they were cancelling his purchase because they believed him to be a car dealer.

This would breach part of the sale contract, the email said.

The email, as seen by Hull Live, said: “From a review of the documentation and information we have found about you, we have identified that your business is in the buying and selling of vehicles.

“As you have also been in possession of this vehicle for a very short period of time, we reasonably believe therefore that you are selling this vehicle in the general course of business.”

Mr Qerreti claimed that he used to be a car dealer, but isn’t anymore. Instead, he says he now runs a coffee shop.

He also claimed that he believed his application would have been checked before the signed invoice was issued.

He added: “They checked the car before, they checked me a while before, they should know.

“They wasted my time. I want to highlight the case to warn others.”
