Huge new water park with 35 slides, 30 saunas, 25 pools and swim-up bars being built an hour from Lancashire – Lancs Live

A new £250m wellness centre and waterpark with 35 slides is coming to the UK – and it’s just an hour’s drive away from Lancashire.

Pictures show what we can expect from the massive glass-domed attraction which is being built next to the Trafford Centre.

The Therme spa, water park and wellness centre, described as an “urban oasis”, will be the first city-based wellbeing resort and covers a massive 28-acres.

It will include 25 pools, 35 water slides, 30 saunas and steam rooms – and there’ll also be a weekly timetable of changing exercise classes, reports the MEN.

There will also be indoor and outdoor pools and more than 1,500 palm trees – creating a tropical atmosphere.

Plans for the facility, which hopes to encourage “the wellbeing of people and the planet”, also include rooftop beehives. The honey from local bees will then be made in recipes at the on-site restaurants as well as in spa treatments.

A 10,000sq m rose-shaped botanical garden will also feature – representing the national flower of England.

The centre is set to provide a unique experience “never before seen in the UK” thanks to its mix of water-based activities, wellbeing treatments, art, nature and technology.

Therme Group bosses say they hope the centre will bring an ‘everyday holiday to people across the North West of England.’

The Manchester site will be double the size of their Bucharest centre – and pictures from that attraction show the amazing array of slides and fun activites that people can expect when Therme Manchester re-opens in the future.

The development has an opening date of 2023 – however building work has not long begun on the site.

It is going in the space next to Barton Square at the Trafford Centre, an area partly covered by the Event City exhibition centre which closed earlier this year.

There will be a dedicated adults’ area with warm water lagoons among spectacular botanical gardens, swim-up bars, therapeutic mineral pools and luxurious steam rooms and saunas.

Visitors can also enjoy water-based fitness classes, yoga, Pilates and other activities.

Bosses say all Therme Group resorts use state-of-the-art plant-based filtration to purify the environment, so guests are always breathing the freshest air and swimming in the cleanest ozone-treated water.

Richard Land, Chief Development Officer of Therme Group UK, said: ” Therme Group is based on a belief that wellbeing should be accessible for all.

“The events of 2020 have shone a light on the necessity of this mission, especially for those in cities.

“Therme Manchester will redefine city wellbeing, enhancing mental and physical health through an experience based in water and nature.

It will offer a unique holiday at home, that acts as a catalyst for healthy lifestyles.”

It comes after plans were approved in September for another big water-based attraction at the Trafford Centre – a £60m surfing lagoon.

Modern Surf, which will have a hi-tech pool with man-made waves, also aims to open in 2023.

Thereme bosses expect the Manchester site to attract more than 1.5m visitors to the area once its open..

The Therme Group has already confirmed plans to roll out similar wellbeing resorts across the UK, including in Wales, London and Scotland, as well as in North America and the Asia-Pacific.

The UK-wide expansion is expected to create around 3,000 jobs.

Pricing for access to the centre has not yet been revealed, but bosses say they are aiming to keep it ‘affordable’ for all.
