Shoppers will finally be able to walk around the former BHS store in Gloucester soon after Primark has now announced its opening date.
After much anticipation, the clothing giant has finally said when it will open the Eastgate Street store, which has been shut since 2016.
Gloucestershire Live reported back in July 2020 that Primark was set to move into the old BHS building, in Kings Walk, and can now confirm that it will officially open on Wednesday December 8.
The official opening date has been confirmed on hoardings outside the store on Eastgate Street.
Work has been going on at the site for a number of months with hoardings and concrete blocks surrounding the site.
The new store will create a series of part-time and full-time jobs, including retail assistants, supervisors and managers.
It is expected to be a large store, stocking an extended range of clothing and homeware products – just in time for Christmas.
Gloucester City Councillor Richard Cook, leader of Gloucester City Council, said: “I am very pleased that an opening date has been announced. Primark is a very popular store and I see its location on Eastgate Street, close to Kings Walk, close to the Eastgate Centre, as being a magnet, which will draw more retailers into this busy retail area in the city centre.
“Just before Christmas couldn’t be a better time for shoppers to experience the opening of this new store.”
