Supermarket giant Sainsbury’s is shutting one of its two Stoke-on-Trent stores.
The branch – on Etruria Road, in Hanley – will close early next year. The petrol station will shut too.
The store has been on added time ever since Sainsbury’s announced in 2019 its plans to close up to 15 branches within the next two years. Hanley Sainsbury’s was on that list.
It is not known how many employees currently work at the supermarket and petrol station. The free car park is also regularly used by city centre shoppers looking for a short-stay parking spot.
A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: “We have updated colleagues on the difficult decision to close our Hanley store and petrol filling station early next year. We are doing everything we can to find alternative roles within Sainsbury’s for those affected.
“Customers can continue to shop with us at our nearby store in Stoke.”
