Thousands of Sky Broadband customers have complained they are unable to log on this afternoon.
Shortly after midday there was a huge spike of reports of people’s internet connection going down from across the country.
It is not clear what is behind the disruption, reported on Downdetector, a website monitoring outages online.
One frustrated user tweeted: ‘Hi there is there an internet outage across Scotland? Can see all my colleagues are having the same issue across Edinburgh.’
Another added: ‘Sake, sky broadband is down. Was enjoying Schumacher! Get it sorted.’
Shortly after 1pm, the Sky Help Team tweeted: ‘We are investigating an issue with Sky Broadband and Talk affecting some customers in East and Central Scotland. We are sorry for any inconvenience this is causing.’
A large bulk of complaints online appear to be coming from Scotland, particularly in Edinburgh.
But others have been made in a number of places, including Manchester, London, Birmingham, Derby, Southampton, Sheffield and Stoke-on-Trent.
Among people reporting outages on Downdetector, 98% said their internet was down, 2% said their television wasn’t working and 1% reported a ‘total blackout’.
A Sky spokesperson says the broadband issues have now been resolved. They added: ‘The majority of Sky customers impacted by the issues with Broadband and Talk in East and Central Scotland should now have their service restored. We’re sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.’
