Hull shoppers are thrilled with the news that the city’s store has been identified as one of the branches who will be launching a new ‘home’ section later this month

The retailer made the announcement yesterday and shoppers are thrilled not to be missing out on the budget chain’s expansion plans.

The range on offer will include chairs, sideboards, shelving units, and side tables as well as mirrors, rugs, wall art, lights, and shades.

Some of the items are already available in a small section inside some Primark stores – and there will now be larger sections dedicated to just home furnishing and decor at 25 branches.

Primark says the collection “offers the latest interior design trends and pocket-friendly prices”.

So, what kinds of products will be on sale when the ‘home’ department opens in Hull’s Princes Quay store this month? We take a look at the kinds of things you can expect to see in the store and the prices you will pay.

The store is keen to promote ‘zen’ furnishings that promote wellbeing and a sense of relaxation, so what could be nicer than this green leaf print double duvet cover set.

Leaf prints are all the rage right now, and this bedding set is a bargain at just £20.

There is also a large decorative gold mirror tray for just £6, and gold elephant trio ornament, also for £6, which are both guaranteed to add a touch of class to any bedroom.

Kitchen and dining

This gold cabinet cocktail kit is just £18 and would make such a lovely centrepiece that it would almost be a shame to use it.

There is also a large cream dining tablecloth for an unbelievable £8, and a leaf-print table runner would set you back only £5 – giving your dining table an instant fresh look.

A pair of glass champagne glasses would make a lovely Christmas gift – and they’re only £7.

We have all spent far too much time at home at our work stations, thanks to Covid, so Primark Home have recognised this and devoted a whole section to livening up your work area.

Their ‘goldtone’ Hex faux plant is just £6, so might as well buy a couple and position them on the corner of your desk to add a splash of colour and, even better, they won’t turn shrivelled like real plants when you forget to water them.

There are also tons of storage solutions, and stationary, with Harry Potter ad Disney-themed options for kids which will make great stocking fillers for the festive season.

Cushions and throws

Aisling O’Neill, one of Primark’s assistant homeware designers, who has been working on the Primark Home team for over three years, said she has put a lot of time and thought into prints and colours, and has the following handy tip for interiors.

She said: ‘If you’re looking for an easy and affordable way to update your home, introducing new cushions or investing in a new throw can drastically change the look of a room, whether that be a bedroom or living space.”

With that in mind, this black elephant foil print cushion looks really expensive but is actually just £7, but artfully placed alongside a selection of plain cushions will make a sofa look really glam and luxurious.

If you’re feeling thrifty, you can just buy cushion covers for your old cushions for only £2.50, or spend even less and buy cushion filler for £1.50 and make your own.

Primark said its whole ethos towards its ‘home’ brand has been shaped by Covid, and how much time we are now spending in our homes, which has made us all think more carefully about our furnishings.

Aisling added: “Trends that had started to peak before lockdown have really accelerated. For example, pre-lockdown we were seeing a focus on wellbeing and the desire to create a relaxing home sanctuary from which you can escape the stresses of the world, which has become even more relevant since lockdown.
